Le ou la président·e occupe le rôle de porte-parole principal·e des étudiant·e·s de l’Université d’Ottawa et dirige le SÉUO. Iel veille à ce que la voix des étudiant·e·s soit entendue haut et fort par l’administration de l’Université. Iel est responsable de la gestion et de la supervision des affaires et des opérations du Syndicat, doit diriger de manière collaborative et doit apporter son soutien aux autres membres de l’Exécutif.
Bonjour! Je m’appelle Delphine et je suis la présidente de votre Syndicat étudiant. Je suis étudiante en 3e année du programme interdisciplinaire de sciences sociales avec une mineure en sciences politiques. Lorsque je ne suis pas plongée dans mes lectures, j’aime les livres, les voyages, les rencontres et découvrir des restaurants. Je suis née et j’ai grandi à Montréal, et je me suis installée ici pour mes études en 2021. J’ai commencé à travailler au SÉUO en 2022 en tant que greffière, puis j’ai assumé la présidence du Conseil d’administration. J’ai rencontré beaucoup de mes ami·e·s les plus proches grâce à mon implication dans le SÉUO et la vie étudiante! J’ai joué un rôle actif dans l’AÉÉIPPSSA (Association étudiante des études internationales et politiques), la Simulation parlementaire et plusieurs clubs. J’ai travaillé pour l’administration de la Chambre des communes au cours des deux dernières années, ce qui a nourri ma passion pour la politique et le processus démocratique. J’ai également été membre du Conseil consultatif jeunesse.
Tout au long de mon parcours universitaire, j’ai été témoin du pouvoir de transformation qui réside dans l’unité et l’action collective. Notre communauté étudiante s’est serré les coudes face aux obstacles, a célébré les victoires, pleuré les défaites, s’est battue pour ses droits et pour être entendue. C’est précisément ce que je m’engage à faire : veiller à ce que chaque voix soit entendue et à ce que chaque point de vue soit pris en considération. En tant que présidente du Syndicat étudiant, je m’engage à défendre les intérêts et le bien-être de chaque étudiant·e. Les étudiant·e·s sont en difficulté et je crois sincèrement que le Syndicat peut contribuer à surmonter les difficultés et les défis auxquels iels font face, et être une force de changement. Je crois en la passion, l’honnêteté et le dévouement, et je suis déterminée à mettre à profit mon expérience et mes connaissances pour promouvoir un Syndicat fort et visible qui réponde aux besoins de notre communauté.
Être la première femme présidente du SÉUO signifie beaucoup pour moi, et je suis reconnaissante envers les femmes qui m’ont précédée et qui ont créé l’espace nécessaire pour que nous puissions occuper des postes de direction au sein du gouvernement étudiant.

My name is Greg, and I’m proud to serve as Operations Commissioner for the Students’ Union! I grew up in Connecticut and moved to Ottawa from the United States in 2021 for new opportunities and to improve my French, and I’m now a fourth-year economics student. This is my first position with UOSU, but we may have met on campus or in town if you attended events hosted by some of uOttawa’s political clubs or the Economics Students Association, canvassed for folks like Laura Shantz or Joel Harden, or stayed up late researching monetary policy with me for the Bank of Canada Governor’s Challenge. When I’m not at work, you’ll find me writing, visiting the OAG, or at a concert across the river at Le Minotaure.
Like many others who have found a calling at UOSU, I’ve seen the importance of organizations that bring people together to make their voices heard, share burdens through solidarity, protect their rights and those of their neighbors, and ultimately create the communities they want to live in. In this office, I’m looking to learn from everyone’s perspective so that our Union can give students value while standing up for their values. At a time when it seems that students are facing more hardships than ever you have my total commitment; I’m at work to ensure that the Union is there for you, that its services are reliable and useful, that your voices are not lost in the crowd, but amplified, and that your dues truly do something for you.

Iel supervise les programmes destinés aux étudiant·e·s francophones, veille à ce que les services et les programmes du Syndicat soient bilingues et protège les droits des francophones.
Hi gang! So, let me introduce myself, my name is Daphnée and I’m your new Interim Francophone Affairs Commissioner!
So, a bit about me, I’ve been studying conflict studies and human rights since 2019, and like many other commissioners before me, I was very active in my student association. I organized the 101 Week for CHRA and served as their VP of Social Affairs Francophone throughout last year. I’ve also been involved in many different clubs and projects across campus over the years, and I’ve quickly made a name for myself as a fierce francophone activist. One of my proudest achievements is that every Francophone Affairs Commissioner that has served the Union knows my name. Some of the projects I’ve worked on include solidifying the bilingualism test in our Constitution and changing the Positions Book to reflect and celebrate Francophone diversity within the Union. I’ve also been consulted on several occasions on amendments and movements affecting the French-speaking community through the various clubs and RSGs. Another interesting fact is that I’m from Northern Ontario, more specifically from a small town called Sturgeon Fall. I come from a long line of Francophone activists. My pride as a Francophone was inspired by the fight led by Franco-Ontarians for their language rights, and it’s thanks to their efforts and sacrifices that I’m able to study in French today. I’m very proud to call myself a Franco-Ontarian, because for me, this represents more than my identity, it’s a commitment. A commitment to continue these battles so that the next generation can embrace their francophonie. Whatever it looks like. However they want. I hope to prove myself trustworthy. I want to create a union where Francophone and Francophile students are not a second thought, and I hope you will join me in this endeavor. Hey there! I’m Sanjida, and it’s an honour to be your Advocacy Commissioner. I am a Bangladeshi-born Canadian immigrant. Originally landed in Scarborough, my first love was Danforth, ON. I grew up in Thunder Bay, ON, a northern community that informs my advocacy and emboldens me to pursue truth and reconciliation. I am my values, and so it’s only right to introduce you to them as well: justice, truth, humility, kindness, equity, accountability, (the Oxford comma) and inclusivity are my non-negotiables.
I am a fifth-year student in the French dual degree program of Political Science and Common Law (J.D.). With four years at uOttawa behind me, I have occupied many corners of campus: I have spent three years at the Fulcrum Publishing Society in a variety of roles; three years at both campus fitness centres; two years with the Human Rights Research and Education Centre on campus; and a summer at the Programme de Pratique du Droit. Similarly, I have a long history of advocacy work behind me. I have represented Northern Ontario on the Minister of Education Student Advisory Council, Ontario Student Trustees’ Association, MP Don Rusnak’s Youth Constituency Council, and the Northwestern Ontario Secondary Schools Student Association. Of course, I am more than my professional experience: I am an artist, a dancer of Bhangra and other styles, a fantastic home-chef, a reader of all things love, and voted funniest at French camp in 2017.
I can’t express to you enough how innate advocacy is to me. I am a disabled woman of colour and an immigrant: to choose advocacy is a privilege I did not have. I know that’s a truth many marginalized people share. I know how much injustice is baked into culture and systems because I’ve felt the backlash of it, and I know that other U of O students do every day. I aspire to help lift the burden of advocacy off the victimized, to the highest capacity I can. I hope to amplify student voices through consultation to accurately advocate for our diverse student body.

Ombud
L’ombud constitue un lien essentiel entre les membres du SÉUO et les structures de gouvernance plus larges. Ce rôle vise à faire respecter les principes d’équité et de justice au sein du SÉUO. Travaillant de manière indépendante et impartiale, l’ombud s’attaque aux problèmes systémiques et apporte un soutien confidentiel et une solution aux conflits et préoccupations soulevés par les étudiant·e·s, le personnel et d’autres parties prenantes.
Philippe was appointed the first UOSU ombudsperson for a two-year term on May 1, 2024. He is a uOttawa alumnus and has displayed a commitment to fairness and human rights, including as legal counsel at the Canadian Human Rights Commission and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
He also brings extensive experience in labour and human rights arbitration and conflict resolution. He has worked closely with complainants, employers and unions in mediations and arbitration to help resolve workplace conflicts and disputes. He has represented clients and the public interest before human rights and labour tribunals and both Federal Courts. He has also worked in a neutral capacity at the Federal Public Sector Labour Relations and Employment Board and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.
Philippe is also fluent in French, English and Portuguese.

Governance (GOV)

Reviews the work of the Student Life Commissioner; reviews relations between the UOSU and the Recognized Student Governments; oversees the planning and execution of 101 Week, including event approvals for UOSU and the Recognized Student Governments; oversees the planning and execution of other social events.

Conseil d’administration
Le Conseil d’administration est l’organe directeur du SÉUO. Il se compose de 30 représentant·e·s étudiant·e·s : les 7 membres de l’Exécutif élus, 22 directeur·trice·s de facultés et 1 directeur·trice pour les étudiant·e·s autochtones.
Les élections générales du Conseil ont lieu en hiver et le Conseil se réunit mensuellement tout au long de l’année. Toutes les réunions sont ouvertes aux membres du SÉUO et une période de 15 minutes au début de chaque réunion est réservée aux déclarations des étudiant·e·s.

What does the Board of Directors do?
The Board of Directors performs three key functions:
Oversight: The Board is the Union’s watchdog. It oversees the Executive Committee and holds it accountable, by asking Executives questions and suggesting areas of potential improvement. At Committee meetings, Directors ensure the organization’s finances and activities are transparent and well-managed, and at Board meetings, it authorizes major expenditures and discusses areas of concern.
Advocacy: The Board makes uOttawa and UOSU better. Directors debate major campus issues and tasks the Executive Committee with action. Directors also introduce and vote on changes to the UOSU’s Constitution, policies, positions, and initiatives.
Representation: The Board listens to students. Directors are spokespeople for students of their constituency on the issues the UOSU works on: health & dental insurance and the U-Pass, student clubs and services, and campus-wide events, campaigns, and advocacy efforts. They listen to students and help the organization implement student feedback.
When does the Board meet?
The Board meets once a month. Meetings are open to all UOSU Members to attend. If you would like to speak at a meeting or have a motion or discussion presented to the Board, you can contact a Director or the Chair of the Board (bod-chair@seuo-uosu.com).
Directors A Director is an undergraduate student elected by fellow students, to speak on their behalf at the Board of Directors. Don’t hesitate to get in touch with them for questions!
The Chair of the Board presides over meetings of the Board of Directors. Similar to the Speaker at the House of Commons, they are the Board’s referee, and ensure that meetings run smoothly. This includes preparing meeting documentation, opening meetings, granting speaking rights, conducting votes, and fairly applying the Board’s rules and Robert’s Rules of Order. They are also the highest instance authorized to interpret the UOSU’s Constitution.
The Chair of the Board is also designated to chair meetings of the General Assembly.
The Chair of the Board is elected by the Board of Directors but cannot vote on motions. No member of UOSU staff may serve as the Chair.
