Statement Regarding PSAC and General Strike
The University of Ottawa Students’ Union (UOSU) stands in solidarity with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) members presently on strike. We recognize them as the public servants who kept our country moving and provided much needed relief when times were hard for so many of us, administering programs such as the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB). Collective bargaining rights are crucial and must be respected. These workers, like all workers, deserve a fair contract!
The UOSU firmly believes that the struggles faced by students and by labour are deeply interconnected. Student and worker issues have been and continue to be overlooked and neglected by our governments. The UOSU supports the PSAC in their efforts to secure a fair deal which gives workers the respect they deserve and we wholly condemn any effort for strikebreaking or back-to-work legislation.
The UOSU Executive Committee encourages its members to join their local picket line and to mobilize ourselves in solidarity with PSAC members and organized labour. The UOSU Executive Committee also calls on our federal government to negotiate a fair deal, in good faith, with the PSAC and to table anti-scab legislation expeditiously.
Executive Team,
